But, I know you have questions. First of all… do we really have to knot the entire strand of pearls or can we just fix the part that broke? We understand! We offer amazing prices for our service but we know that repairs are sometimes an investment you just don’t want to make! When I moved into my older home I was ready to renovate it! But first, we had to fix the roof and waterproof the basement. No fun! That wasn’t exactly the new kitchen I was dreaming about (it came 10 years later!) Well, the same goes for beautiful jewelry! We know you just want to wear and enjoy your beautiful gems… and it is not always the most fun to have to pay to repair them!

Well, for us to do a top quality job, yes, we need to knot the entire strand of pearls. We have done “quick fix” jobs before but we do not recommend it and we cannot guarantee the longevity of your repair.

Next, depending upon how your strand was knotted, it might be poised for breaking. I remember a customer bringing in her strand from a  top notch jewelry store… and they had made a critical mistake! They had attached the silk thread directly to the clasp. This is a big no no! There is no faster way to break your silk than by tying it to metal! High quality pearl strands run the silk thread through a tubular wire and attached the wire to the clasp so metal is always on metal! Here is an example!

Silk tied directly to a clasp:

And when we finished the necklace, here it is with the tubular wire (also called french wire!)

I created a video to tell you a bit more about this repair. Tune in here. And if you need any help with your gems, feel free to reach out or order our Jewelry Return Kit!

Best,

India
