China is the largest producer of pearls in the world. Their main harvest is freshwater pearls although they also produce saltwater akoya pearls, typically found in Japan. The Chinese pearl production is absolutely fascinating. There is so much to learn about the freshwater pearls from China! And the akoya pearl harvest is amazing, too!
