Pearl Girls want to know… Can you get a strand of BIG cultured pearls from Japan? This is such a great question! Japanese pearls are typically small. Why? The Japanese are known for culturing pearls in Akoya oysters. These oysters are small…very small and the cultured pearls they produce are small…very small. You will rarely find a Japanese Akoya pearl larger than 9mm. So, if you want to go for that strand of knock-out, big, bold cultured pearls….you won’t find them in Japan!
