I find it impossible not to get excited about the birth of a sweet baby. My two sons bring so much joy to my life each and every day. So, I was thrilled to see Kate and William show off sweet baby (or should I say His Royal Highness?) Prince George. What a lovely gift to these two! And what pressure, right? This sweet baby will one day carry the weigh of the British monarchy on his shoulders.
And on his head? He will carry The Imperial State Crown.
This coronation crown features five rubies, 11 emeralds, 17 sapphires, 273 pearls, and 2,868 diamonds with purple velvet and ermine. The big 170 carat ruby (spinal) has been part of the crown jewels since 1367. The crown itself was originally made in 1838 for Queen Victoria.
The crown is customized and reset for each monarch’s coronation so Prince George will one day have a style of his own.
And here I was thinking that he won’t be able to wear pearls! I was so wrong!
I am a modern day treasure hunter who travels the world for gorgeous pearls and amazing adventures. I own a pearl jewelry and jewelry repair business, ThePearlGirls.com, with a cute retail store in Athens, GA. I also have a Pearl Travel business and travel blog at TheWorldofPearl.com.
