Tell It All in the South!

I was chatting with a friend today and a simple question generated a very long response! By the end of my monologue, I just fell out laughing (and fortunately she did too)! Sometimes there is no such thing as a simple answer in a southerner’s life. It reminds me of my entire family… I am the youngest of 4 children and, along with my parents, we are all very spirited and vocal. When we get together a common phrase is “Tell it all, tell it all!” because once you get started telling, it is hard not to include EVERY SINGLE DETAIL. So I thought it was funny to come across the quote on southerners. I think it is very appropriate!

In the South, the breeze blows softer…neighbors are friendlier, nosier, and more talkative. {By contrast with the Yankee, the Southerner never uses one word when ten or twenty will do}…This is a different place. Our way of thinking is different, as are our ways of seeing, laughing, singing, eating, meeting and parting. Our walk is different, as the old song goes, our talk and our names. Nothing about us is quite the same as in the country to the north and west. What we carry in our memories is different too, and that may explain everything else.”
