I Do NOT Like My Pearls

” I do not like my pearls,” Barbara told us when she came into our office. She pulled a gray velour jewelry box out of her bag and opened it to the most exquisite 20 strand necklace of tiny Biwa pearls. They were in great condition, absolutely beautiful with their gorgeously unique shape and amazing color and luster. The necklace was big and full with a large gold clasp. It was also very long. I was in awe but Barbara was overwhelmed. “I do not know when to wear it or how to wear or even why to wear it.” Her husband had bought the necklace for her many years before and although she agreed, the necklace was beautiful, it was too big and too full.”I do not like my pearls,” is all she kept saying, over and over.

I do not like my pearls to I LOVE my pearls - Barbara restrings pearl necklace with The Pearl Girls

So, imagine the beautiful day we had yesterday, weeks after initially meeting, when Barbara said, “I LOVE my pearls!” We transformed that too-big strand into a softer, longer and more manageable 5 strand necklace with a matching 5 strand bracelet. And she was thrilled. We even shortened it for her so it no longer fell to the awkward mid-chest length. The necklace was perfect.

It is moment like these that make it all worthwhile. And that drive 40 minutes down the road to meet Barbara and her husband was definitely a thrill. We were able to turn “I do not like my pearls” into “I love my pearls.” and there is something incredibly satisfying about that! Plus, these more just more amazing people that we get to our list of Amazing People We Meet Everyday!! It is pretty awesome.
